Ross Murray MA ACIFA

Project Manager

Ross is a Project Manager at AOC with nearly 20 years’ experience as an archaeologist, working within the commercial heritage environment. His work has encompassed all aspects of excavation and post-excavation analysis working successfully within and at the head of a team.

With his experience in excavation techniques, surveying and illustration, Ross works to develop and improve efficiency of recording in the field and the resulting archive. His extensive experience and problem-solving skills have been called upon in his roles as Senior Archaeologist during advance works and resident Archaeological Clerk of Works during the construction phase of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, one of the largest infrastructure projects undertaken in Scotland.

Since joining AOC Ross has managed several large-scale infrastructure projects including the Birmingham Resilience Project, the Southwest Scotland System Onshore Reinforcement Scheme and the A9 Dualling: Pass of Birnam to Luncarty. He is currently part of AOC delivery team for HS2 and East West Rail Phase 2.

Ross has directed a number of important, large-scale excavations ranging in date from the early prehistoric to 20th century.  The largest of these projects was Culduthel Farm, Inverness where he directed the excavation of a nationally significant Iron Age settlement. He also directed the excavations at Old High School, Edinburgh where a 13th-century knight’s grave was uncovered within an extensive medieval graveyard.

Ross ensures his work is to a high standard and always aims to deliver a project to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. He enjoys tasks with a high level of responsibility and has a proven track record in delivering results across a broad-spectrum of fieldwork.
