Florence Laino
Project Manager
Florence joined AOC in 2020. Flo’s experience in commercial archaeology started as a site assistant in following completion of her Masters in 2014, since progressing on to become a fieldwork Project Manager. During this time she has worked on large scale urban developments in the City of London, as well as rural sites across the country. Her excavation experience has taken her from a Neolithic - Iron Age seasonal occupation site in Bishop’s Waltham Hampshire, to a multi-period burial ground in Stoke Mandeville as part of HS2 works, to Medieval and Tudor remains at Hampton Court Palace, and the 1815 Waterloo battlefield in Belgium.
At AOC, Florence’s core project base comes from the house building and utilities sector. Her fieldwork covers projects both pre and post determination, including evaluations, walk over surveys, watching briefs and mitigation projects. She is adept at liaising with members of the design team, principle contractors, statutory consultees, and Local Planning Authorities to ensure that projects run smoothly, and that clients are fully equipped in respect of their duty of care to the historic environment.
Florence is also passionate about archaeological outreach, and several projects she has worked on have had outreach, training, and workforce engagement elements at their heart.
Most recently she was the production lead on a Historic England funded project which produced a series of instructional videos and Covid-19 related resources in consultation with industry organisations, to complement official guidance on dealing with the pandemic. These videos were aimed at helping archaeologists and contractors feel safe and empowered to get back to work.
