Virgil Yendell BA MSc

Project Manager, Geoarchaeology

Virgil joined AOC in 2020 and leads the Geoarchaeology sector for the organisation across the UK. A Reading University graduate with more than sixteen years of experience in commercial geoarchaeology in London and across the UK, Virgil is highly experienced in deposit modelling and geoarchaeological fieldwork on deeply stratified sites, in particular as part of major and national infrastructure developments. With a broad experience base – preparing and contributing to rapid and in-depth deposit models, environmental impact assessments, post-excavation assessments, analysis and publication, in addition to online engagement through ESRI story maps – Virgil was instrumental in developing Museum of London Archaeology’s geoarchaeological capabilities over the last decade, managing large geoarchaeology datasets as part of the Olympic Park development, Crossrail, and Tideway projects. He is now responsible for leading similar projects and developments with AOC recently working on large infrastructure projects such as HS2, as well as energy projects such as Hornsea 4 and Solar 21, and leading Historic England Research projects investigating the use of deposit models in Historic Environment Records.
