AOC Archaeology Group offers a wide range of landscape and building surveying services tailored to the assessment and recording of archaeological and built heritage. From walkover GPS surveys to millimetre-resolution laser scans, AOC Archaeology Group’s experienced surveyors can undertake all forms of landscape, archaeological and building surveys.
GIS provides an ideal tool for analysing archaeological sites in their landscape setting, taking into account the local environment and drawing on terrain, soils, vegetation and other data sources as well as political boundaries and conservation areas. Our GIS expertise means we can provide a range of integrated geographical services, from desk-based assessments to georeferenced surveys integrating digital mapping, field and remotely sensed data.
Terrain models can be built using a variety of surveying methods, including total station and GPS. Where suitable conditions exist, one effective method is to employ laser scanning, which allows the construction of detailed elevation models in a fraction of the time taken to produce the same data using other methods.
Our surveyors use a range of techniques to record standing buildings, such as high-quality photographic records to reflectorless EDM surveys and laser scans to create the most complete record of the built environment possible.
