Introduction to the project

Mon 14th July - Fri 8th Aug:
Coring, surveying and test-pitting training programme in Dunnet Bay.

Sat 9th - Sat 23rd Aug:
Excavation and survey training programme in Dunnet Bay

We hope that as many people as possible will take part in the daily search for the Vikings across Dunnet Bay.

Each working day is from 09.00 to 17.00.

Information on which part of Dunnet we are working will be outlined at the preceding weekly workshop and advertised on  http://www.castletownheritage.co.uk/ and this site.

Week 1 (Mon 14th to Friday 18th)
We will be working in and around Dunnet this week. Please meet Alan and Graeme in Dunnet Caravan Park at 09.00am each day.

Week 2 (Tues 22nd to Friday 25th)
We will be working in and around Dunnet this week. Please meet Alan and Graeme in Dunnet Caravan Park at 09.00am each day.

Week 3 (Tues 29th to Friday 1st)
We will be working to the east of the road adjacent to the car-parking area at Mid Burn. Please meet Alan here at 09.00am each day.

Week 4 (Tues 5th to Friday 8th)
This week the intention is to core in the southern end of the survey area, just to the north of Castletown. Parking will be available in the gated off area on the seaward side of the main road, courtesy of Dickie of Mackay's garage. Please meet Alan here at 09.00am each day. Week 5 (Tues 12th to Friday 15th)
This week the intention is to begin excavation, beginning in the northern end of the bay. We will also continue coring in the southern end of the bay. As always, each day runs from 9.00am to 17.00pm, and we are meeting at Dunnet Caravan Park. Please meet Alan, Juha and Andy there. Aside from bringing a packed lunch and appropriate footwear and clothing there is no need to bring any other equipment – we will supply trowels, buckets etc. If you require further information please phone Alan (07764 154379) or Andy (07747 052917).
