AOC Archaeology Group’s in house Osteoarchaeologist, Melissa Melikian, based in our London Office, enables AOC to provide immediate, project-specific advice on the recovery of human remains, including the ethical and legal requirements and sampling strategies required when remains are encountered anywhere in Britain. We can advise on the sampling and potential for chemical analysis such as radiocarbon dating, DNA and isotope analysis and procure these services. Our services include on-site identification, recording and removal of skeletal material. AOC Archaeology Group is equipped to carry out the careful processing required for human bone, involving specialist cleaning and handling, steps necessary to provide accurate and meaningful assessments.
AOC Archaeology Group provides full osteological analysis, whether of inhumations or cremations. This involves identifying the number of individuals present, estimating sex and age, calculating stature and establishing the health of each individual and the sample population as a whole. All our studies are contextualised by studying comparable data sets. The results are entered into a user-friendly database and statistical analyses of the data are carried out.
Our osteological work strictly follows the requirements of the law, regulatory bodies and professional standards.
