Salary £18,561 - £27,564 depending on experience and skill set

AOC Archaeology Group is one of the leading, and fastest growing, commercial archaeology companies in the UK. We have a highly skilled and dynamic team that offers a full range of archaeological fieldwork, consultancy, survey, post-excavation and public archaeology services.

We are looking to appoint an archaeological illustrator to join our Edinburgh team, providing graphics support to our excavation, post-excavation, consultancy and historic building teams. This is a varied role in which the post-holder will work with each of our departments to provide mapping, illustration of site surveys, archaeological excavation drawings, historic building and artefact illustration to a high professional standard, including for technical reports and for publication. The successful candidate will also take a lead in the production of e-publications and aid the senior management team with other marketing projects.

Applicants should have demonstrable experience in the use of graphics packages for archaeological illustration and mapping, including Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, Adobe Indesign,  CAD and GIS packages, and should have good general computer-literacy. While not essential, experience in 3D modelling, processing of laser scan data, photogrammetry, structure-from-motion or RTI are all highly desirable. A thorough knowledge of archaeological survey and drawing conventions is essential, and although this role is office-based, applicants should ideally be able to demonstrate experience of fieldwork involving excavation, topographic or historic building survey. Experience in graphic design for marketing material, web design or heritage interpretation is also highly desirable.

Are you passionate about our heritage? Can you work to tight deadlines?  Are you willing to learn new skills? Are you methodical and well organised? Do you have a positive and enthusiastic approach and enjoy being an active team member?

This role requires self-motivation, organisational skills, good time management and a commitment to the development of innovative approaches to graphic communication. It is essential that you are a good team member with a positive approach to the pressures and challenges of a busy archaeological consultancy.

Degree level qualifications or above and membership of the CIfA are preferable.
