Stuart Munro MA MSc

Archaeologist

Stuart Munro

Stuart joined AOC in 2021 after completing his MSc in Archaeology of the North from the University of Aberdeen, graduating with distinction. Prior to joining AOC he was involved with a variety of community and research excavations throughout Scotland, as well as participating in geophysical and drone survey.

In his time with the company, Stuart has worked on several projects ranging from central England to the Shetland Islands. These projects comprised rural large-scale infrastructure projects like HS2 to smaller urban sites within the centre of Edinburgh, dealing with time periods spanning the Mesolithic to WWII. During this time, he has gained experience in field excavation and recording, GPS survey, and monitoring of large area machine strips.

His interests lie predominantly in Scotland, in the periods ranging from the Iron Age to the Early Medieval, focussing on the construction, use, and importance of hillforts. His dissertations both centred on these issues, attempting to understand dense upland settlement in the Bronze and Iron Ages of Britain and Ireland using drone survey and GIS.
