Matt Walker BA HoNS
After graduating from Hull University in 2007 with a BA Hons in History and Archaeology, Matt was a freelance Archaeologist for 8 years, working for various commercial field units on a large number of complex urban and large rural sites across northern England and Scotland, including many large scale excavations , evaluations, walking surveys and watching briefs. His work has included several Scheduled monuments, including a watching brief on Edinburgh Castle in 2010, and excavation of a large number of human skeletons and cremations covering a wide range of periods. From 2010 to the present he has produced numerous reports on watching briefs and evaluations as well as taking on the role of principle project officer on occasions. In addition to fieldwork Matt has also undertaken a large amount of post-excavation work, including processing palaeoenvironmental samples.
In 2009 Matt volunteered as an assistant supervisor on a fortified Medieval site in Slovakia for 2 months as part of an EU funded scheme, and has since helped volunteers in commercial archaeology on other sites in the UK on various occasions. Matt worked on the large Beverley bypass scheme, Brough, and the Fruit Market and Dry Dock schemes in the centre of Hull, becoming a full time member of staff on the latter schemes as Project Supervisor.
