Introduction to the Nybster Broch Project, Monday 25th April, 7.30pm, Auckengill Village Hall
Dr Andy Heald, Dr Graeme Cavers and Charlotte Douglas of AOC Archaeology Group will discuss the archaeology of Caithness and the brochs of Scotland, as well as talking more specifically about Nybster Broch and the aims of the project.
Guided tours of the Caithness Broch Centre and Nybster broch, every Saturday while excavations are in progress! Tours will start at the Caithness Broch Centre at 11am, lasting approximately 90 minutes.

Digging Caithness Brochs: Then and Now, Saturday 30th April, 7.30pm, Keiss Primary School
Dr Andy Heald, Dr Graeme Cavers and Charlotte Douglas of AOC Archaeology Group will talk about the investigation of brochs in the past, before the introduction of modern archaeological methods and standards.
Guided tour of the Caithness Broch Centre and Four of the Area’s Brochs, Sunday 1st May, 1pm – 4pm, meet at Caithness Broch Centre
Dr Andy Heald, Dr Graeme Cavers and Charlotte Douglas of AOC Archaeology Group will give a free guided tour of the Caithness Broch Centre, followed by tours of Nybster, Whitegate, Roadside and Harbour Brochs.
Please provide your own transport between the Broch Centre and the broch sites, and bear in mind that there will be some walking involved. Please wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather!
Traditional Skills Workshop – Weaving, Saturday 4th June, 2pm – 4pm, Caithness Broch Centre
Learn to weave with Mrs Joan Manson and Mrs Ann Johnston. All materials will be provided by Auckengill Heritage Trust.
Please note that children should be accompanied by an adult.
Traditional Skills Workshop – Farming, Saturday 9th July, 2pm – 4pm, Caithness Broch Centre
Try out traditional farming/dairy skills such as grinding grain and making butter, and learn about sheep shearing with the Auckengill Heritage Trust.

Nybster Broch: summary of what we’ve discovered so far, Monday 1st August, 7.30pm, Auckengill Village Hall
Dr Andy Heald, Dr Graeme Cavers and Charlotte Douglas of AOC Archaeology Group will present findings from our excavations in the spring, and details of what we hope to achieve in August and beyond.
