In Situ: stories about the past told through archaeology

A new website showcasing a range of work done by AOC Archaeology Group is now live. In Situ focuses on discovering the past through digital innovation and brings to life many of AOC’s projects through interactive 3D models.

In the past, the results of surveys, excavations, conservation, and other work were generally confined to technical reports and academic publications. This new digital platform will provide free public access to the most illuminating stories from AOC’s work and present them in an accessible format for a wide range of people to enjoy.

The website currently features a variety of projects, including prehistoric settlements, medieval castles, and a post-medieval house, with articles on specific objects ranging from a Bronze Age ladder to a medieval toilet seat to a First World War steam locomotive.
New projects will be added to the website as and when new results become available.
