AOC Laser scanning services

AOC Archaeology Group offers laser scanning as part of our wider Survey and Buildings survey services. Laser scanning is a means of providing highly detailed and precise 3D measured surveys of structures and landscapes in a very short space of time, producing the most complete measured record possible. Point-clouds, the direct product of scanning, have the advantage of being highly versatile and can be modelled to produce 3D representations of objects, highly detailed 2D elevations and plans, or digital terrain models.

Laser scanning greatly increases the quantity of information that can be obtained during the course of field survey; this provides a direct benefit to our clients either by reducing the amount of time required to complete our surveys, or by increasing the quality and quantity of information collected during fieldwork. The technique is particularly suited to large, complex buildings, resulting in highly accurate drawings and 3D models that would be impossible to produce using traditional survey techniques.

As a market leader in laser scanning for archaeology, AOC Archaeology Group is involved with the University of Nottingham in a programme of research and development of the technique and its adaptation to a range of heritage applications.
