Condition Surveys, on-site conservation and advice
AOC Archaeology Group Conservators are often required to carry out condition surveys of public monuments.
One example was when a retired former commando wanted to ensure that the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge would remain in good condition with an active group of local volunteers ready to care for it. AOC Archaeology Group conservators were commissioned to carry out a condition survey, followed by a cleaning operation of the sculpture and its surroundings, aided by local volunteers, ex-army personnel and a group of commandos from Arbroath. At the end of the project, a care and maintenance manual was produced, with maintenance information, suppliers, and a list of ‘Danger signs’ to indicate when local workers should seek professional help.
