Viking and Norse Heritage Project

Viking and Norse Heritage Project

In July 2008, Castletown Heritage Society embarked on a major community project to investigate possible Viking and Norse heritage around Dunnet Bay on the north coast of Caithness. Central to the project was the involvement of the local community. Led by archaeologists from AOC Archaeology Group, individuals and groups are involved in all aspects of the project, from field survey through to excavation and publication of the results. Aware, however, that not everyone would be able to take part in the fieldwork and to keep the community involved we produced daily web diaries, undertook a series of public lectures and hosted weekend workshops and Saturday evening lectures at the Castlehill Research Facility in Castletown.
