Archaeology works were required as a condition of planning consent prior to the redevelopment of the Dalmonach Print Works site in Bonhill Bridge, Alexandria, which had been established in 1786.
AOC Archaeology Group’s comprehensive desk-based assessment and building recording survey allowed for the targeting of the most potentially significant areas of the site during the evaluations. This meant that areas that required full excavation were targeted early and completed while the evaluation continued elsewhere on site. The archaeological works required to discharge the planning condition were thus carried out swiftly, allowing the developer to begin works necessary to facilitate the residential development. The programme of works also ensured that important historical and industrial features within the site were preserved by record prior to their demolition.
