Recent trends in archaeology and heritage have seen increasing value being placed on material remains of the recent past. Historical archaeology is primarily concerned with remains dating from the late medieval period to the present day including buildings, industrial archaeology and buried archaeology as well as artefactual assemblages. AOC Archaeology Group staff are well equipped to deal with historic sites and collections, having acquired experience in historic research skills as well as the excavation and recording of a variety of medieval and post-medieval domestic, religious and industrial sites. Furthermore AOC Archaeology Group is familiar with the conservation and curation of historical artefacts and collections.
The study of these more recent material remains allows for the supplementation and clarification of historical records such as early maps, archival records and even artistic representations; and this builds a more complete picture of our recent history, as the call for the protection of historical sites and collections becomes evermore frequent.
