The Midlothian Young Archaeologists’ Club participated in the Big Dig at Cousland Castle recently. This public archaeology project, which ran through the first week of April, was led by former Midlothian Archaeologist David Connolly and aimed to get members of the community involved in excavation, geophysics, metal detecting and building recording.
The Young Archaeologists, supervised by AOC Archaeology Group staff, got a quick lesson on how to dig archaeology. Then they stuck into a bit of excavation and recovered a number of artefacts including a metal buckle, a button and a number of other ceramic, glass and metal finds.
