Conservation of archaeological artefacts from the Auldhame excavation

A number of high status copper alloy objects were recovered from a grave during the excavation of Chapel and graveyard overlying an Iron Age fort at Auldhame, East Lothian. Along with various iron, silver, lead, ceramic, stone, and glass artefacts came a significant group of artefacts, comprising of a copper alloy buckle strap and a stud, as well as iron spurs and an iron spearhead. Collaboration between conservators, archaeologists and academic specialists during the post-excavation analyses will provide a valuable insight into aspects of early medieval life.
