AOC Archaeology Group have been awarded the contract to work with the Caithness Archaeology Trust (CAT) on an exciting new project in Auckengill, Caithness. AOC and the Trust will work together to produce a plan for the conservation, excavation and preservation of Nybster broch, located on the a dramatic stack promontory near the Cathness Brochs Centre.

Nybster broch is one of the most spectacular ‘broch village’ complexes in Caithness, and was partially excavated by Sir Francis Tress Barry in the 19th century. Besides the broch itself, there is evidence for a long sequence of activity on the site stretching from the early Iron Age through to the Viking and Norse periods and later.

We will be working with CAT to design and carry out a programme of community training in archaeological field techniques, alongside workshops for local schools and young people. Watch this space for news of the project website and how to get involved!
